CORGI 1/72 Mitsubishi A6M2-21 Zero – 81-1183, 381st Kokutai, Sorong Airbase, “Jeffman Island”, May 1944
Add a legendary Pacific Theatre fighter to your collection with this CORGI Aviation Archive 1/72 scale diecast model of the Mitsubishi A6M2-21 Zero. Finely detailed and ready to display straight from the box, this premium replica depicts aircraft 81-1183 as operated by the 381st Kokutai during operations from Sorong Airbase in May 1944, capturing the later-war service of Japan’s most iconic naval fighter.
The Mitsubishi Zero was one of the most influential fighter aircraft of the Second World War, renowned for its exceptional manoeuvrability and long-range capability. Designed specifically for carrier operations across the vast Pacific, the A6M2-21 variant introduced folding wing tips to improve deck storage efficiency, with around 3,700 examples produced across Mitsubishi and Nakajima production lines.
By 1944, units such as the 381st Kokutai were engaged in increasingly difficult defensive operations across the South-West Pacific, facing overwhelming Allied air power during intense attritional combat in the region. This model reflects the aircraft’s operational camouflage and field-worn appearance as it would have been deployed during this period.
CORGI’s Aviation Archive craftsmanship faithfully recreates the distinctive lines and markings of the Zero, offering collectors a highly detailed and historically accurate representation of this famous wartime aircraft.
